Key ACE Selling Lesson: Identify and Pursue Quality Opportunities

To the casual observer, poker might look like a random series of events. To poker players, it's anything but. Successful poker professionals take a calculated risk that represent the likelihood of an event occurring. When this calculation is in their favor, they will take the risk and pursue the opportunity. When it is not in their favor, they let the opportunity go (fold). The successful poker professional has worked years developing the skills to be able to look at a table, grasp the situation, come up with a solution and take appropriate action in minutes.  

In poker, there’s only one thing worse than losing and that’s losing after you put in a lot of money. Poker teaches you the benefit of losing quickly. The sooner you are able to fold your cards when you feel the risk is greater than the reward, the more money you will save; providing you more money to bet when better cards  appear. 

​In sales, we know it is difficult to “let go” of a sales opportunity especially when you already invested your resources into it but as a sales professional, if you feel you are at a disadvantage, you will only make matters worse by wasting more resources if you continue to chase an opportunity with a low probability for success. Minimize your loses and let the weak opportunities go. Saving resources to focus on opportunities with a high probability for success.
